Sarah Ramirez Santana

Pronouns: She/her

My name is Sarah, I am a recent Bryn Mawr College graduate with a degree in neuroscience. I am from the Dominican Republic but have lived in Boston for 9 years. My research interests involve studying the pathophysiology of psychiatric disorders, specifically the impacts of chronic stress on the brain, and animal behavior. I am currently working in Dr. Victor Navarro’s lab at Brigham and Women's Hospital, studying neuroendocrinology. My project is looking at a newly identified group of neurons (Kiss1 neurons of the caudate putamen) in female mice that may play a crucial role in early reproductive development, kick-starting puberty, and potentially influencing cognitive abilities later in life. By studying these neurons, we hope to uncover new insights into women's reproductive health, including potential causes of fertility issues and links between hormones and brain function. And my fun fact is that I have a really fat cat named Valentina.
